Shepherd's Way

Summer 2021 Litter from Shire and Gus

Peaslee's Elanor Proudfoot (Shire) is an exceptionally intelligent, kind-hearted, and intuitive dog with a strong sense of responsibility. Friendly and gentle, she gets along with everyone and tries hard to please. She enjoys working and has started level herding titles and intermediate trick dog titles in addition to her canine good citizen certification. Although not formally trained as a service dog, she adapts naturally to the needs of those around her and is a loving companion for elderly and disabled members of the family. She patrols our property, dispatching mice & voles, and running off coyotes and hawks. Shire is petite & athletic with a feminine build and features.

Orchard Hill's Augustus McCrae (Gus) lives on a farm in Texas where his owner notes, "He is all I wanted and I am so pleased to have him. he is my best friend (other than my wife) and I depend on him for so much. I think he has an ideal temperament, he has great working instincts, he is really smart (I’ve had to put clips on all my doors and gates because he watches me and figures out how to open them).... Gus brings the goats in from the back pasture but I think his real talent is with cattle. I took him on a roundup at a friend's ranch and after getting off my horse and trying to get cows and calves out of the mesquite thickets, Gus would go in and drive them out. There were times before we discovered Gus was a cow dog that we had to leave cows behind because the thickets were so dense. I have a couple of old cowboys that have offered to buy him. He can run all day. When we roundup, we start at daybreak and go until dark and Gus is in motion the entire time. Gus is my constant companion, I take him everywhere I can and I always get compliments on him wherever I go. He sleeps in the house at night and wherever I am, he is by my side."

Both Shire and Gus have had the Embark genetic panel: both are clear for MDR-1; Gus is an unaffected carrier (one copy) for CEA and PRA-prcd and Shire is clear for both so puppies will not be at risk. Genetic coefficient of inbreeding (COI) for this cross is 3.0%. Puppies should be born mid-February.  I expect these puppies to be thoughtful, athletic and balanced, family-oriented puppies with solid working instincts.  They should be lovely family companions and intelligent, capable working partners. Colors expected in the litter include tricolor, sable/white and black/white. Contact Shepherd's Way if interested in applying for a pup from this litter.
